Are You Ready to Make a Career Change?

In a perfect world, by the time you’re in your twenties or thirties, you’re in an established career path that makes you happy and fulfilled. Does that sound familiar? Don’t worry if you can’t identify with this sentiment — studies show the majority of Americans can’t either.

In fact, due to being unhappy in their position, a reported 71% of the workforce is currently looking to switch jobs. The reasons fall all over the board: Poor management, low compensation, and simply being stressed. Of course, work should be challenging so that you get the opportunity to grow. Not every task that is a part of your job description will be enjoyable. So how do you know if you need to look on the bright side or if your job is actually one you need to quit?

There are many signs that say it’s time to move on. If you’re thinking about leaving every day, or  if you’re consistently unhappy at work, those are clear indicators. If the stress of the job is spilling over to your home life, so that you never feel fully away from work, that’s another. A full 63% of people feel this way, reporting an increase in drinking and crying as a result of their job.

Career paths have changed, and no one expects you to stay in a job that makes you miserable for the rest of your life. If your work doesn’t fit in with what you ultimately want to achieve, you should definitely consider a switch.
