Having good personal hygiene is something that is very important when it comes to promoting wellness and good health. Even though you would think that everyone has proper hygiene, that isn’t always the case. That is why you need to ensure that you are staying safe when in public places. When you are in public spaces you are more likely to pick up something as there are so many germs being transmitted.

When there are multiple people who touch the same surface throughout the day, such as in a public bathroom, it needs to be just one person who is neglecting their hygiene to put everyone else in danger. That is especially the case now that we are battling a global pandemic. If you are unsure of what proper hygiene looks like in public places, here are some guidelines.

Eat Your Food In The Protected Areas

When you are in public, you shouldn’t eat your food just anywhere. Make sure that your food is always in a clean container or plate. When you are eating make sure that you are sitting won on a clean surface and that both the table and your hands are clean. After you are done eating, always make sure that you wipe down the surface as well as cleaning your hands. If you ate something that was wrapped in paper or off of a paper plate, make sure that you throw them away or recycle them if there is an option.

Always Wash Your Hands

Since we are in the middle of a global pandemic, it is very important that you wash your hands every time you come indoors no matter if it is coming home or walking into a restaurant. Using things such as public transport means that you are touching surfaces that other people touched before you. Make sure that you are constantly sanitizing your hands or washing them with warm water and soap.

Use Public Toilets Correctly

As most of us know, one of the biggest and most important places where you need to have proper hygiene is in a public bathroom. Never under any circumstances make direct contact with toilet seats unless you have disinfected it first. After you have used the toilets make sure that you always use the commercial automatic soap dispenser and clean your hands thoroughly.

Watch How You Are Coughing and Sneezing

No matter if there is a pandemic going on or not when you are coughing or sneezing you need to watch how you are doing it. When you are not covering your mouth, the germs will spread through the air and cause others to get infected. Therefore, make sure you are always covering yourself when you are sneezing and then sanitizing your hands afterwards.

Don’t Come Close To People Who Are Coughing

As we have mentioned above, always cover your mouth and nose when you are coughing and sneezing. But some people don’t have manners, therefore they won’t cover themselves when they are coughing and sneezing. What those people don’t know is that you don’t necessarily have to directly cough on a person in order to spread infection. Just coughing around someone can cause germs to spread on their skin and make them sick. So, make sure that you are steering clear of those people as well as do your best not to be them.

Constantly Use Hand Sanitisers and Wipes

When you are in a public space, you simply can’t help but tough things that everybody is touching. And as we have said before, there only needs to be one person who is not clean to infect others. That means that when you are in a public space you are touching things that are filled with bacteria. Some people fix that issue by wearing gloves while others are constantly using alcohol wipes or hand sanitiser. Make sure that you are using them often, especially before you eat, touch your face or mouth as well as after shaking someone’s hand.

Wear A Mask

As we are battling the global pandemic, in most places it is required that you are wearing a mask when in a public setting. You should not only wear your mask to obey the law, you should wear it to protect yourself as well as keep those around you safe.

Don’t Ignore Any Infections

When you are suffering from any type of infection, it doesn’t matter if it’s a skin one or strep throat you should always stay away from people. If you really have to get in public make sure that you are staying away from other people so you don’t infect them.

Never Spit In Public

Something that you should never do because it is not only gross but it is a criminal offence in most countries due to COVID-19. Instead of spitting out of your car window or just on the ground when you are waking, take a tissue or find the nearest restroom and do it there.

What people need to realise is that personal hygiene is a must in order for public hygiene to exist. If you are someone who has good personal hygiene and you are in a public place you are less likely to catch something. But just to be safe, make sure that you stay away from shaking hands with people as well as touching things that you don’t need to touch.
