How often do you find yourself feeling tired and lethargic? We live in an age where there is always a distraction, and often, lifestyles don’t lend themselves to feeling energized and having a focused outlook.

So what are some of the best tips for staying energized and keeping your focus? What can you do if you’re the sort of person who often finds themselves getting sidetracked or struggling to get out of bed in the morning? Most of us can do some things to help with our lifestyle and give our bodies and brains the support to get more done.

Eat nutritious and healthy food

If you’re honest about your daily routines, you might find that there are some habits you could change, including what you eat and drink. If you consume too much sugar, you can end up feeling “crashes” which sap all of your energy. If you’re not getting enough vitamins and minerals, you can also end up feeling very tired. Also, additives and e-numbers in your diet might make you irritable or easily distracted. There are many potential problems a poor diet can bring about over time, including disease. Try to give your body the best chance to help you to feel focused.

There are some habits that can feel like they energize you, such as sugary food or consuming caffeine too much. In fact, they’re much more likely to cause you to have a short term spike and then a crash. Over a long period of time it is also not good to rely on caffeine or other substances for a boost. A good diet will lead to having more energy available for the body to use.

Get a good night’s sleep

A good night’s sleep is the foundation for a productive day. If you don’t manage to get enough sleep (somewhere between 6 and 8 hours) then you can find yourself irritable, easily distracted, and generally feeling tired. You certainly won’t feel focused or concentrated on the day and all you have to get done.

If you’re the sort of person who struggles to get to sleep, there are options for you. Many try CBD (cannabidiol) for sleep issues, finding that the soothing properties help them to drift off. Some people also find that a warm bath, essential oils, or even a white noise machine can help.

Stay hydrated

You’ve probably heard about this before. The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine say that you need to drink around 3.7 liters of fluids if you’re a man. That’s more than most people consume on average.

Water does so much for your body including flushing out toxins, and if you don’t consume enough it is likely that the feelings of lethargy and struggling to focus will follow pretty quickly.

Some people take specific steps to stay hydrated and ensure they remember to consume enough water. This might be as simple as setting regular alarms to tell you to take on some fluids. Other people buy specific bottles that show how much water is within them, and this encourages them to continue to drink throughout the day.

As well as taking on enough water, you need to consider whether you are consuming other things that could be having an impact on your hydration. For example, if you’re drinking coffee or alcohol as well, you might need to consume even more water to keep your hydration levels strong.

Take walks and listen to music

There are numerous benefits to walking and listening to music. For one, it improves CBF (Cerebral Blood Flow) and this helps with your mental state and improves blood flow to the brain, boosting your mental focus and feelings of being focused.

Of course, taking walks and listening to music is not just about getting the blood flowing. It is a great way to take a break from whatever activity you are doing and refresh yourself, ready for heading back to work or feeling concentrated on the task at hand.

This is also largely about geting some fresh air. Modern lifestyles don’t lend themselves to getting a lot of fresh air. It’s something you should definitely think about, and make a point of doing. Getting outside gives you the chance to increase blood flow and oxygen levels, which the body needs to feel invigorated. If you find that you feel stagnant after a long time siting in the office, for example, make a point of getting out and taking a walk.

Stay positive

This is another one of those tips that may be easier said than done. It’s easiest to stay focused if you are positive. This might mean that in times where you are struggling mentally, that you seek help.

When people talk about the “power of positive thinking” it can sound a little corny. Actually, there is definitely something to be said for keeping a positive mindset. If you are feeling negative, it is much harder to get motivated and to achieve what you need to. It’s also easier to get sidetracked and distracted by things.

If you are having “one of those days” and everything feels difficult, it could be time to break the cycle. Take time out to do something that you know will make you laugh, get some fresh air, or even start to feel better about the task at hand.
