5 Ways To Better Manage Your Time During COVID

The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented time in our world’s modern history, and it can be overwhelming in many ways. Whether you are having to take some time off work or are working from home, it can be easy to get off track and be less productive than you would like to be. If you are looking for ways to better manage your time throughout the pandemic, consider these five easy steps.

1. Make a Daily Routine

When working from home — whether you are perfecting construction scheduling software or talking clients through insurance needs — you need to have a daily schedule made. When you have a routine that you follow every workday, you will feel more productive and accomplished. It is easy to get into a rut when working from home in the COVID-19 crisis, and this can lead you to feeling depressed and unproductive. You need to treat your home workdays just like you would your office workdays. Get up, get dressed and get going!

2. Take Scheduled Breaks

When you are working at the office, you likely take a lunch break and other ones throughout the day. There is no reason to feel that you have to be productive 24/7 when you are stuck at home due to the pandemic. Take some time to relax throughout the day, but make sure that your break time does not last too long. For your lunch break, set a timer for 30 minutes or an hour and do something you enjoy like watching an episode of your favorite TV show.

3. Set Specific Goals for the Day

Finding motivation during quarantine can be difficult to say the least. When going to sleep at night, you may envision all the things you are going to accomplish the next day. When morning comes, though, it can be easy to lose heart and simply look at all the things that you have not gotten done. You may feel that you will never check everything off your to-do list, but the length of your list might be the problem. Instead of trying to tackle every project imaginable, set a few, manageable goals for yourself each day.

4. Manage Your Sleep

It can be easy to get way too little or way too much sleep during a pandemic. When you are working odd hours or furloughed from work, it can be difficult to stick to a sleep schedule. However, a sleep routine is very important for your physical, mental and emotional health. Make sure that you are not staying up too late, but do not sleep too long, either. Both of these things can make you feel cranky and tired throughout the day, so it is better to aim for a solid eight to nine hours a night.

5. Be Kind to Yourself

While there are so many suggestions about how to do things better during the COVID-19 situation, one of the most important ones is to give yourself a break. You do not have to be a superhero that gets everything done around the house that has needed attention for five years. Instead, focus on keeping yourself healthy and sane. It is acceptable to just take a lazy day off now and then, and do not berate yourself when you do not check off your entire to-do list. The world is going through a stressful time, and it is normal to feel less productive than you would like to be.

As you navigate the new waters that are COVID-19, do not be afraid to make mistakes with your time management. This simply allows you to figure out what works and what does not. It is a learning process that has not been easy for many people, and there is a daily struggle to be productive. However, when you keep a positive attitude and strive to do your best every day, you can be on your way to managing your time as best you can during this trying season.
