How Self-Care Can Help You Achieve Your Career Goals

Advancing your career takes hard work and a tremendous amount of effort. At times, it’s likely you may have to put in hours outside of your scheduled work day in order to complete the tasks at hand. However, going above and beyond can lead to exhaustion which in turn causes us to “let ourselves go.”

While you’re putting in overtime on the job, your body and mind may be begging you to switch your focus to self-care. Keep reading for some tips on how lending some time to your mental and physical health can help your budding career bloom.

Keep Up Appearances

Confidence is key when it comes to moving forward in any walk of life and this is especially true in the workplace. Your appearance and the way you carry yourself speaks volumes and you only want to be perceived in a positive light. Dressing for success not only includes the clothing that you wear but also your physical appearance. If you’re feeling self-conscious about thinning hair, reactivate those follicles and stimulate growth with minoxidil, a topical solution that puts a stop to hair loss and promotes new growth. If your skin is blemish-prone, speak with your doctor about a prescription acne treatment and start putting your best face forward. If you’re looking to fix up your teeth, book a consultation with the Invisalign Dentist in Brentwood CA to transform your smile. Establishing a proper grooming routine will show your co-workers and employer that you take pride in yourself as well as your career.

Rest Up

Getting the proper amount of sleep each night is crucial in order to function and this is especially true at work. Sleep deprivation may cause anxiety, a weakened immune system, and may even lead to high blood pressure or increased chance of obesity. In short, you may find yourself wanting to pull an all-nighter to prepare for that big presentation, but in actuality, lack of sleep will only leave you feeling anxious and disoriented when it comes time to present.

Practice Self-Praise

Like people, self-growth comes in many shapes and sizes and means something different for everyone. In order to be successful in your career, you must look within yourself and begin with positive, personal self growth. If you’re an individual who is constantly second-guessing yourself, keep in mind that this may reflect negatively on your capabilities in the workplace. Taking the time daily to repeat positive affirmations to yourself, whether it be aloud or in your head, will have a larger impact than you may think. Being reminded of your self-worth and importance is great to hear when it’s coming from others, but if you don’t believe in yourself, you will be forever stuck in the same place in both your personal and professional life.

Create a Comfortable Work Environment

In order to flourish and advance in your career, you must have the necessary tools to create a work environment in which you feel comfortable. If your company allows you to work from home, create an office environment within your house where you can be free of distractions in order to ensure the utmost productivity. If you’re in the office 40 plus hours a week, you may have to get a little more creative. Whether this includes asking your boss for a standing desk or a purchasing a pair of blue light blocking glasses, consider investing in your comfort as a way of also investing in your professional future.

  1. Rest is super key Chantal. I will be traveling from Turkey to Thailand come Wednesday; I will rest and pass out whenever possible. If I get ample sleep, I am good. Been sleeping 7-8 hours a night for the past month. Feels SO good!
