A Fun Saturday At The Ottawa Gatineau International Car Show

While I may not know the specs of every car, I do consider myself to be a little bit of a car enthusiast. I love looking at cars and watching shows about them. I also enjoy watching F1. Go Ricciardo! But it is even more enjoyable doing all that with my wonderful husband.

So today my husband and I had a date and spent half the day at the 2017 Ottawa Gatineau International Car Show. It was so much fun!!! There were a few cars I wish I could have taken home with me.

The 2017 Ottawa Gatineau International Car Show is taking place this weekend at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa. What a great venue for it as well! Four floors of cars from the more expensive super cars and luxury cars, hybrids, trucks all the way to the affordable family sedan all under one roof. There are 30 car manufacturers and over 300 cars to see. They are open until 10 pm tonight and open all day tomorrow. If you can make it out, you should! Tickets are very affordable. The staff working the auto show were very friendly and helpful too.

While my husband and I explored all the manufacturers I am going to highlight a few of my favorites. Of course I had to start with Lamborghini. Lamborghini has been a favorite car brand of mine ever since I was a teenager. I still remember the posters that I would see in stores with the white Lamborghini Countach with the butterfly doors open. I was an instant fan. Seeing the Lamborghinis today did not disappoint. Lamborghini Montreal brought several of their new Huracan (which is Spanish for hurricane) models with them. The Huracan replaced Lamborghini’s most produced car, the Gallardo. My hubby and I were fortunate enough that we got an up close look at the Lamborghini Huracans on site and even got to sit in the Spyder. That was a thrilling experience!! (I could have stayed in that car all day.)

The orange one below is the Lamborghini Huracan LP-610-4. The red one that I got to sit in is the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder (stunning). The black one is the Lamborghini Aventador LP-700-4 Roadster.

Porsche was there too and I checked out their 911 Carrera 4S Coupe (silver one below) and their 718 Cayman S (blue one below). Both are beautiful cars to see up close.

Up next was the Ferrari 488 Spyder (red one below) and the Rolls Royce 2017 Dawn Convertible (white one pictured below).

After having my head in the clouds with all the wonderful Lamborghinis, Porsches and Ferrari, I discovered that I could actually take super cars and mustangs out and race them around a track. What an exciting and thrilling idea! How?? At Calabogie Motor Sports Park. I never knew that a place like this existed and so close to Ottawa too. They had a booth set up at the car show and I learned all about their 5.05 kilometre race track and all the different experiences that you can have. Even corporate events. I think the hubs and I will have to add this to our things to do this summer.

After spending time in the luxury car section we headed to some of our favorite and must see car manufacturers. The first of which was Mini. I love the look of the Mini Cooper and would love to own one (hopefully one day). Mini Ottawa had a great line up of Minis to see: Countryman, 3 Door, 5 Door, Clubman and my favorite, the Convertible. They are all charming cars and they are fun to drive too! My husband and I have taken a Mini Cooper S for a test drive in the past. They are nimble, zippy and handle corners so well!

Next up was Fiat. We were excited to see the new Fiat 124 Spider Abarth. It is a convertible roadster sports car. It was beautiful to sit it and I am sure would be lots of fun to test drive.

Last but definitely not the least was Mazda. We currently drive a Mazda 5 and we both love it! I just love Mazda. We specifically wanted to check out the new Mazda MX-5 RF. It did not disappoint! We had seen pictures of this car online and watched a few YouTube videos before seeing it in person today. The MX-5 RF is even better in person. The MX-5 RF that was on display was the Blue Reflex Mica color. That is the color I would pick. Such a beautiful blue. Unfortunately I did not get to try out the Retractable Fastback (RF) top which is supposed to go up and down in 13 seconds. We are definitely going to have to go for a test drive. I just LOVE this car.

Overall our experience at the 2017 Ottawa Gatineau International Car Show was a positive one. If you can go before the weekend is over it is definitely worth it! Otherwise make plans to attend next year’s show. You don’t need to be a car enthusiast to enjoy seeing all the wonderful cars on site. Plus you may discover your next dream car or family car to purchase.
