What do you want to be when you grow up?

I have finally decided what I want to be when I grow up.

When I tell my 11 year old daughter this she rolls her eyes at me at tells me “Mommy, you are ALREADY grown up.”

True.

My journey to HR has had a lot of twists and turns. I have worked in retail, as a flight attendant, in radio sales and promotions, in project coordination, and even doing event planning….basically a Jack of All Trades.

Just over 3 years ago I got my first ‘HR job’ as a Recruiter. It was such a great feeling to help someone find a job. (Not so much fun when you had to tell people that they didn’t get a position though.) That first HR job helped me to discover a love of HR.

I left that position after a while to gain more skills and experience. I went from being a Recruiter to a Project Coordinator. While working as a Project Coordinator I ended up helping out with recruitment. I tried to involve myself with anything to do with HR that the organization needed help with, (and would let me stick my nose into.)

My inner HR was calling me.

Now I work for a great organization and I have a more HR generalist role. I get to dabble in everything HR and I love it! I am also back in school working on my Human Resources Management certificate.

My road to HR has looked more like a windy road and not a straight path.

My blog will cover experiences that I have had in the world of HR and anything and everything HR related.

How did you get into HR? Please share your experiences below.
